Panasonic SA-PM250 cd drawer opens on power up

Hi
i have a small Panasonic SA-PM 250 home stereo system. The cd drawer opens when powered up and remains out after normal attempts are made to return it. When powered down it will return with the requisite amount of force. I am unable to enact the reset function by depressing power button whilst plugging into mains. 
Any suggestions pls?
