Hi I'm glad I found this site, have downloaded the manual for the Bose Wave Radio/CD I'm attempting to mend for a friend.
I've got everything including the remote working except there is a problem with the CD player.
If the CD laser/lens is parked close to the spindle, the normal starting position for a CD player, it will not detect the CD and keeps flashing DISC CD->. However, if I gently move the lens carrier to about the middle it will re-calibrate itself and find track 1 and play it. Once it starts working it will play the whole disc even when set on random select.
I'm guessing that the lens is parking too close to the spindle and therefore cannot detect the start of the first track. Anyone got ideas about this and how to fix it?
I checked the ribbon cable and that shows continuity across all the lines.
Power supply smoothing capacitors all seem OK, checked for dry joints, bulging etc..
The player is nice and clean so it isn't dirt causing a problem.
The owner said it used to work fine and then it started to get erratic taking up to 3 goes to play a CD before refusing to play entirely.
