Sony TCM-200DV cassette recorder not starting, no light

I have an elderly friend she would like it to work again. There is nothing, no light on the side, no rotating spools, where to start please?  Thank you. I changed the belt which of course has had no effect

Hi!
The most likely reason is that the old battery has flowed in and corroded the contacts.
It should be checked first, or use an external power supply.
