I have a Technics sa-290 receiver, the boxes are not connected, when I activate the TUNER, there is no tuning indication and the crystal lock LED does not light up, right after I turn it on there is a little noise as if some security circuit is disarmed.
Question:
Does tuning detection (FM/AM) only work with connected speakers?

Hello Tadeu,
If the amplifier part works from an external source, then the problem is with the radio tuner part.
If you set the "FM mode" switch to the "mono" position, you should be able to tune the radio to one of the stations manually.
If you find a station, but it cannot be tuned to the frequency you know, and it is noisy, not stereo, not locked, then the quadrature detector of the FM IF stage has failed.
If you have an instrument and practice, you can try to adjust the detector with the tuning coil. However, if the tube capacitor has failed in the tuning coil, it may require a more serious expert to repair it.
