The radio can pick up signals and technically works. Although the speakers are very quiet and the is a very lound hum playing from the speakers on all sources. I am in the uk and have to use a power adapter to plug it in. Dunno if this makes a difference but it seems worth mentioning.

First of all ,switch the voltage selector at the back to 240 volts.
Check the power supply ,selenium rectifier (B250C100),C796.797 2*50 uF capacitors.
The EL84 output pentode can also cause the phenomenon.
