I have just installed six new D batteries plus the two AA batteries for the the microprocessor's 3 volt back up
in my Sangean ATS-803A world band radio but its microprocessor has still been then been acting up now & then lately.
It locks up, shows weird things on the display, won't let you turn it off or on until you take all of the batteries out & so forth.
Putting the batteries back in also doesn't clear the problem. The radio must first sit without any batteries at all for a day or two for the problem to go away.
I don't understand what could be corrupting the microprocessor. Some type of interference maybe? Please respond! Thanks!

I've also read many other people have had this same problem so I was curious & looked inside the radio for anything obvious:
It turned out the battery compartment (with time & age) had pressed itself against a 4 conductor ribbon cable near the end of the mainboard where the battery compartment connects to the audio board. This punctured the ribbon cable in two places shorting it against sharp things on the soldered side of the board.
I insulated this area good with several layers of electrician's tape
& now the problem is solved.
PS: I am a retired broadcast engineer who worked in medium wave, FM stations plus at two satellite radio networks.
Best Regards, Chuck B.
