Harman/Kardon AVR20ii remote control won't operate the volume

Hello, my old Harman/Kardon AVR 20ii seems to work perfectly, except for the remote control won't operate the volume. The physical volume knob functions perfectly. I can hear what sounds like a motor operating while pressing the remotes volume button, but it doesn't adjust in either direction.

I removed the AVR's shroud and can see what looks like a small motor attached to the potentiometer, and it appears that it wouldn't physically turn the volume knob on the unit but I'm not certain. I tested for dc voltage on the leads of the apparent motor, but nothing showed.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,
Ryan

Hi!
The two most likely errors can be the following.
The motor driving IC (IC 503, TA 7291S ) or the motor itself is faulty.
IC503 is controlled by pins 8-9 of the CP102 connector.
You can test the motor by unplugging it and feeding it with 12 V, if it's good then the IC is at fault - this is more likely.
It may happen that the IC supply voltage is missing, there should be + 15 Volts on pin 2.
