The cassette play/fwd/rev doesn't work, You can hear something happening but the cog that turns the tape doesn't work? Is it belt driven and possibly the belt has stretched?

The rubber belt is stretched, maybe even torn, but there could be other problems.
It must be taken apart and examined.
