Pioneer X-SMC02D Scans for DAB+ Stations each time being turned on

The Pioneer X-SMC02D is a DAB+/FM/BT/CD stereo appliance.  When powered on from standby, it scans for stations in DAB+ mode.  Seems like it "forgets" the station information from the previous power-on time.  Once powered on and kept playing, the information stays but loses it when turned off/moved to standby operation.

There does not seem to be a backup battery on the CBs anywhere so I guess it is a problem with the power supply not keeping enough power to the station/settings memory.  Am only guessing since I do not have a service manual available for this unit.

If anybody has encountered same or similar issues with ref unit, please advise.

Hi hifista,

unfortunately there is no component on any of the PCBs inside the unit even remotely suggesting either a backup battery nor a subsidiary supercapacitor like the one you mentioned.
I even removed the main PCB and checked its bottom side - nothing whatsoever.  I tested the electrolytic and film capacitors and found them all within range.  I exchanged two film capacitors on the power supply CB which were at the low end but to no avail.

Short of a wiring diagram there is probably not much that can be done.  I have emailed the company in charge of support of Pioneer equipment in Germany.  Shall see if anything comes to fruition.

Cheers, capt_nemo

Hi!
Unfortunately, I cannot attach a picture, only a text message is possible.
The memory capacitor position number is C3021 and is located on page 1/7 of the SMC 3 Main PCB Assy.
It is located close to the Network module, on the PCB.
Hifista.

Right. I found that in the respective wiring diagram, but the equipment I have (SMC 02D DAB+ stereo) is totally different from that.

Hi!

The cause of the error is not the battery, but the background memory capacitor.
The service manual for the X-SMC3 can be found here and is probably similar.
The faulty part is 0.1F and 5.5V.
It is located on page 39 of the service manual, in the lower right corner.
Good luck!
Hifista.
