Not possible to get in the menue or choosing any function. Any help is welcome, thanks.

Hello Ed,
Did you try software upgrade via external SD card?
What happen if you connect the device to a computer?

Hi Torokj,
In the meantime I tried to do an upgrade (110japan). When sliding in the card, nothing happens. I did this while making the firewire connection with my computer. The divice is regretably not shown on the computer.
Earlier when opening the case of the machine, I saw the red 'BUG' led glowing. After pressing the nearby 'bug switch', the light stays on.
The only sign of life the machine gives, is a soft "click" through my headphones, when it is swithed on or off.
I must say, this recorder is beautifully built!
Hope you can do something with this information?
Thanks for your time so far,
Regards,
Ed

Hello Ed,
Did you find this manual?
https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1207924/Tascam-Hd-P2.html?page=6#manual
To enter the TEST MODE:
Selecting Test Mode allows you to perform check operations of
the encoder, LCD and keys, and also to get into self-diagnostics.
1. Switch on the power and press the DISPLAY and PLAY
buttons at the same time.
The TIMECODE, PAUSE and REC LEDs blink and as you
release your fingers from the buttons the PAUSE LED lights
solid to indicate the test mode is engaged.
Emergency Boot-up:
If the update failed because problems occurred in the updating
process, you can use the boot program to get the unit restarted.
1. Switch on the power and press the PROJECT and STOP
buttons at the same time.
The boot program gets the unit started.
Remember, the starting firmware is in the flash ROM and the
same version as shipped.
2. Once the unit restarted, try updating the firmware
Otherwise I would check the battery.

Hi Torokj!
Sorry for this late reaction, I did not expect more messages.
Thank you for that manual.
I already had a look in it.
The whole test procedure did not work for me. There is not any reaction from the machine, other than the display lighting up after powering up....dead.
There is not any reaction after touching whatever function knob, regrettably. I took the machine apart in thousand pieces, but by just looking for burnt parts or bad connections gave no solution.
Taking the recorder to repair will be too costly nowadays, I could buy another device for the money!
But I have loved the machine for its verstility besides the fact that , in a moderate price-range, I will not succeed a recorder with all its in and outputs.
Such as analog and digital in en outs.
But ok, so be it,
Thank you for your friendly willingness thinking about a solution,
Regards,
Ed
