Yamaha DVD-S700 inoperative

Recently came across the unit at a yard sale marked brand new and was in original packaging and taped also. Purchased for $20. Got unit home and plugged in to wall outlet and pressed power button on front of unit and heard a slight whistle noise and nothing happened. No display or amy movement heard inside the unit. Unplugged unit and let sit idle for a few hours and tried again with the same results. Player is in prestine condition. If it was used must have only been once because it's super clean and no scratches or scuffs at all.
Could someone please point me in the right direction or give me some ideas?
Much appreciated ahead of time. Excited to hear this thing after looking at the specs. I was in aww with the S/N ratio of 115. That's great this thing mist sound amazing.
