What does switch do?

Hi you all,
thank you for the opportunity to ask questions.
I have a schematic of a switch but I don't know the symbol. It is a push button with 6 contacts.
As I cannot upload a drawing, I'll try to recreate it.

0 0
0 || 0
0 || 0

The 6 '0' are the contact points.
The left and right | of the upper || and lower || are connected continuously. So one long | left and one long | right over the height of the lower two rows of contacts.

Thanks!
Bart

Hi,
thank you all for your help.

This is a link to the part of the scheme containing the switch: https://ibb.co/f8mhR6N
Which wires will be connected when putting the switch in the 'on' position?

Thank you!
Bart

1 -O  O- 4
2 -O||O- 5
3 -O||O- 6

It is a DPDT switch. There are two independent switches, that are mechanically connected. If we suppose that the OFF state is shown in the schematic you linked, then pins 2 and 3 connected on the left side and pins 5 and 6 on the right side. If we throw the switch to ON state then pin 1 connected to pin 2 and pin 4 to pin 5.

Hi imrus101,
thank you so much.

So the full story. My multimeter on/off push button broke down. So I ordered a new one, soldered it, but the multimeter doesn't work. I tried several obvious checks but no luck. Maybe I used the wrong switch? Before desoldering I'd like your opinion.

This is the whole schematic (top left is the  switch): https://elektrotanya.com/my-64_digital_multimeter_sch.pdf/download.html
This is the schematic of the switch I bought: https://robu.in/product/7x7mm-6-pin-dpdt-self-lock-lock-push-switch-10pcs or a direct link: https://aws.robu.in/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7x7mm-6-Pin-DPDT-Self-Loc... (They were advertised specifically for multimeters).

Many thanks, for everybody's help.
PS: I tried to click a thumbs up, but nothing happens.

Hi Bart,
Could You send a pic from the PCB, booth side, around the switch holes, without the switch.
Regards,

Jacint

Hi!

Take a photo and upload it to an image sharer. Copy the link. Maybe we can help.

It seems the right '0' has shifted to the middle in my 'drawing'. Left and right there should be a row of 3 aligned contact points ('0's).

Try to use and measure with an DVM diode and voice test measurement.
Then share the results.

Hi Pelek,
it is a schematic.
And even if it was a physical board, I would not understand what you mean. I'm new at all this.
Thanks.
